The Fundamental Florida Electric Car Incentives
As we mentioned earlier, there are currently no Florida electric vehicle tax credits. In lieu of Florida EV tax credits, however, you still have access to a massive Federal electric car rebate. Florida electric vehicle incentives Deltona drivers can expect include:
- Florida drivers who purchase a hybrid, PHEV, EV, or ILEV are given an HOV decal to put on their window that allows them unlimited access to the HOV lane.Â
- Many cities across Florida offer their own unique Florida electric car incentives, which your EV dealer or city can educate you about. Don't forget to check to see if you can save! For instance, in Orlando, the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) offers a rebate of up to $200 to residential customers who buy an eligible new or preowned plug-in electric vehicle.
- While it's not a Florida EV tax credit per se, purchase a new plug-in electric vehicle or full EV that weighs less than 14,000 pounds, and you'll be eligible for a Federal rebate for electric cars valued at up $7,500.Â
- This Federal electric car rebate doesn't start until December 31, 2023, but used EVs put into service on, or after, that date will be eligible for an electric vehicle incentive of up to $4,000.Â
New Terms for the Federal Electric Car Rebate
The Inflate Reduction Act recently passed, and while it's renewed the Federal Rebate for electric cars through 2032, it comes with a host of new terms and conditions. One of the primary changes to electric car incentives is that this legislation works to bring auto manufacturing back to the United States and decrease dependency on China for production. This move disqualified 70% of current EVs, however, your Subaru EV incentives rebate remain unscathed. The Subaru Solterra is eligible for the full $7,500 Federal electric car rebate; when leased through Subaru's preferred lender, new 2023 Subaru Solterra models are eligible for a $7,500 incentive that will be used to lower the lease payment (ask your retailer for full details on EV financial incentives). The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is also eligible for $4,502 in tax breaks. Learn more about the revised terms and conditions for the Federal rebate for electric cars:Â
- Electric car incentives have been renewed through 2032.
- In addition, pre-owned EVs put into service after Dec. 31, 2023 qualify for a $4,000 credit.
- Previously, only 200,000 EVs sold qualified for the Federal rebate for electric cars each year. The cap has been removed as production ramps up!
- With the freedom of the cap removal, new stipulations have arrived. All qualifying EVs must be built in North America.
- There are also a number of stipulations about materials used in battery construction. For instance, 40% of minerals used in batteries must either come from North America or a country with a free-trade agreement with the U.S. By 2027, 80% of minerals must be sourced from approved countries.
- Furthermore, 50% of battery components must come from North America, and by 2029, 100%.
- But don't worry, if an EV doesn't meet all construction requirements, it will still be eligible for a partial Federal electric car rebate. Of course, Subaru EV incentives are maximum, as the Subaru Solterra qualifies for the full value of the electric car incentive.
- Bear in mind that battery restrictions don't apply to used vehicles, but used vehicles must be at least 2 years old and valued at $25,000 or under in order to qualify.Â
- If you make $150,000 or more as an individual, you won't qualify. The same goes for married couples with joint income of $300,000 and over.Â
