Green Mountain Scenic Byway
This scenic drive near Orlando is one of our favorite scenic drives in Central Florida. Starting from Mount Dora and ending in Winter Gardens, this 19-mile stretch is just west of Orlando, is great for cycling, motorcycling, and automotive joyrides. You’ll see wildflowers aplenty, and a high number of flea markets along the way!
Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway
Starting on the Space Coast and ending on the Treasure Coast, this 233-mile highway traverses the entire central Atlantic coast of eastern Florida. This byway is notable for being studded with historical landmarks. As you make your way down in a new Subaru, be sure to swing by the Kennedy Space Center and the Juan Ponce de Leon Landing Park, where the first Spanish sailor made first contact with Florida.
River of Lakes Heritage Corridor
This 156-mile trail runs just east of the St. John’s River and is a great way to explore Volusia and Seminole counties. Expect to see otters in the river, red-shouldered hawks, owls, and be sure to stop by the Central Florida Zoo while you’re out!
Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail
This 34-mile double loop is among our favorite scenic drives near Lake Mary. Along the northeast coast of the Atlantic, this trail starts just north of Daytona Beach. From December to March, you may see North Atlantic Right Whales beached along the shores with their calves! You’ll also see barrier dunes, and you may see nesting turtles and groups of Dolphins splashing around. Other highlights include J.D. Rockefeller’s Florida getaway residence, which you can tour.
Florida Black Bear National Scenic Byway
This 123-mile byway is located in the middle of the Ocala National Forest. You’ll find dozens of trailheads along the shoulders of the road, so be sure to mix in some hikes. After all, this was a primary filming location in the Tarzan movies, so exceptionally lush!
